Tonight's beer: Victory Yakima Glory
Deep caramel, toast, dark bread, with scattered threads of what my palate parses as butter (but which I'm pretty sure isn't diacetyl). Floral-grassy bitterness rises up, overwhelms the malts quickly, bringing with it whispers of pine and musk. Somewhere in the distance, there's a flicker of chocolate. Dries out quite a bit on the long and very bitter finish.
Kinda bready-chewy, a bit thicker than medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Some syrupy stickiness, drying into and through the finish, surprisingly refreshing for a beer this size. Not much alcohol heat, given the 8.7% ABV.
A very drinkable beer that tends toward barleywine territory, but the malts aren't quite sturdy enough for that. Very hops-focuses—as the name would indicate—but with kinda atypical flavors for an American hops-focused beer. Pretty well-balanced, nicely intense. Complex, but well-integrated. Delicious.
