Tonight's beer: New Holland Dragon's Milk (2013)
Chocolate, threads of coffee; caramel-vanilla bourbon character breaks over the top, with earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness emerging a little toward the finish. Molasses, smoke, burnt fruits in the distance. Darkly sweet, gradually bitter.
Surprisingly light-bodied—almost thin—for a bit bourbon-barrel stout; decently carbonated. Not thick enough to be bready or chewy, but there's a lot of syrupy stickiness, especially into a very long finish. Lots of boozy flavor, but not much heat.
A decent enough big bourbon-barrel stout: The bourbon character at least is unmistakable. Pretty intense, but kinda straightforward (and maybe a bit obvious) for a big stout; more or less dominated by the bourbon but holds together well. Drinkable for a big beer, and pretty subtle about the alcohol payload, considering how upfront the bourbon is in the taste.
