Tonight's beer: Blue Mountan (Barrel House) Long Winter's Nap
Grassy-floral bitterness sits on top of pale-bready sweetness. Hints of caramel and honey, toffee and nuts, maybe a sprinkling of spice. Something kinda mineral, almost flinty, arises as the beer veers quickly to dry.
Medium-bodied, maybe a little lighter, and highly-carbonated. Pretty smooth, a little chewy and syrupy-sticky; eventually drying and something a lot like refreshing. Other than a soft prickle (which is probably at least partially carbonation) roughly no hint of the 10% ABV.
This is a delicious beer, marvelously subtle and supple and graceful. The flavor is reasonably intense (if not as much so as I would expect from a beer this big) and more straightforward than complex. Precisely balanced and poised, superbly drinkable. Blue Mountain brew some amazing beers, and this seemed appropriate for a stormy evening.
