Sierra Nevada Trip in the Woods

Tonight's beer:

Sierra Nevada Trip in the Woods

Opens with ... bright fruity tart-sweetness. Chocolate and coconut lurk in the right-behind, with a smattering of coffee. Vanilla around the edges, some drizzles of caramel, toast in the foundation. Smoke and peat and earth in the distance, inching forward as the beer struggles to dry out (and mostly doesn't).

Surprisingly light-bodied for an imperial stout, with lots of mostly-fine carbonation. Kinda flinty-jagged, a little puckering, then quickly drying. Very little heat or prickle for 9.8% ABV.

There's a lot of bright-tart fruit here, enough that the beer plays almost like some sort of fruited sour rather than a big stout. Intense and pretty complex, but out of balance for a stout and generally kinda not-right. It's hard to tell if this is a QC thing or it Sierra Nevada intended the beer to be thus. Interesting, either way; I drank the whole thing, but I wouldn't care to have another.
