Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Our Own Bavarian-Styled Doppel Weizen
Big bananas and cloves, with substantial (if nicely-integrated) grassy-floral-piney bitterness. Pale bread, hints of other pale fruits. Peppery wheat character floating nicely in middle.
On the light side of medium-bodied, with decend carbonation. A hint of boozy heat and prickle, but nowhere near what I'd expect for a beer at 9% ABV. Nicely drying, and distressingly refreshing. Just a hint of syrupy stickiness at the tail of the finish.
A very nice Weizenbock (even though Lagunitas don't call it that); paler than, say, Aventinus, but very flavorful: intense and complex. Substantial alcohol carried with impressive grace. Drinkability is through the roof—this beer is scarily refreshing for the strength. Is this beer authentically Bavarian-style? It's pretty close, as far as I can tell. Nice.
