Smuttynose S'Muttonator

Tonight's beer: Smuttynose S'Muttonator

Smuttynose S'Muttonator

Toasty dark bread, caramel. Ample toffee and nuts. Hints of darker roasts—mainly choclate, touches of coffee. Earthy-grassy bitterness a strong presence. Hints of fruits and spices, most likely alcohol.

Medium-bodied, tending toward heavy. Some boozy prickle, a bit of carbonation. Nicely drying, gently warming, immensely satisfying.

A suitably malty doppelbock, but balanced and remarkably well-integrated. Big, complex, and intense. Boozier than a lot of others in the style. I haven't had a bad beer from Smuttynose, and this one is pretty awesome.
