Tonight's beer: Anchor Our Special Ale 2011
Dark roasty/toasty malty character—dark bread, coffee, chocolate, nuts, toffee; tons of spice—cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, juniper, cardamom, probably others; a hint of earthy-piny-grassy-floral hoppy bitterness. Touches of caramel and bready sweetness. Dries nicely toward roasty finish.
Medium body, decently carbonated. Some bready chewiness and a bit of piney-syrupy stickiness. Nicely drying and more refreshing than I would expect from a Winter Warmer.
Pretty much a definitive American Xmas beer. Never the same beer, year-to-year; consistently awesome. A spiced cookie of a beer. Tons of flavor, intense and complex; drinkable has heck. Definitely an Xmas beer to buy a sixer of every year.
