Tonight's beer: Big Sky Buckin' Monk
Fruity up front—pale fruits like apples and pears and maybe golden raisins: all dried and candied. Touches of lightly-toasted bread and maybe caramel. Grassy and floral bitterness rising in the background. Distinct spiritous presence.
Medium-to-light-bodied—slightly heavy and sticky for the style—and very highly carbonated, densely so. Nicely drying. Very subtle booziness, carried gracefully.
An alarmingly, if typically American (read: big) take on a tripel, with its strength very well-disguised. A little thick and sticky for the style, but pleasant. Intense and complex; nicely integrated. A decent beer by a small-ish brewer with some decent chops. Yummy!
