Tonight's beer: Cape Ann Fisherman's Pumpkin Stout
Roasty-dry on top—more coffee than chocolate—with bread toasted so dark it's practically burnt. Pumpkins and spices—more dark than bright (no cardamom or ginger here) right behind. Maybe something ashy, way in the back.
Surprisingly light-bodied, with pretty decent carbonation. Some roasty-drying on the finish. A bit of chewiness in the middle. Very satisfying.
Nicely drinkable pumpkin stout. Not the only one I've had—Midnight Sun brews one I think I've had—but still tending toward the idiosyncratic. While it's not so crazy as their Imperial Pumpkin Stout, there is a lot of flavor here. Balanced and complex. Almost makes me sad to say good-bye to autumn.
