Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Holiday Porter
Very roasty: Chocolate and coffee come forward, then maybe some toffee, dark toast/bread, and typically porterish stale/tangy character. Earthy and grassy and peaty bitterness right behind. In the background, caramel/bready sweetness, hints of dried/candied fruits. Finishes dry.
Kinda medium-bodied, with decent carbonation and roasty dryness. Some bready chewiness/stickiness. Very pleasantly filling, tending toward refreshing.
A very nice porter, with ample tang but tending more toward roasty-dryness than caramel/chocolate sweetness. Intensely flavorful, balanced, and complex. Very satisfying, and very drinkable. The Winter Classics 12-pack keeps on winning.
