Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Bigfoot (2011)
Bitterness—piney and grassy (with citrus present but settling back a bit)—on top of caramel-toasted malts. Some background elements of dried/candied fruits, and of spices. Dries out nicely on finish. Some spiritous character, more like whiskey than anything else.
Bready-chewy mouthfeel, kinda syrupy-sticky, with distinct prickle that's probably at least partly booze. Gentle warmth from palate to gut. Satisfying and very drying on long sticky finish.
A very nice barleywine—definitely a barleywine, just from the malt character. It's been in the bottle almost a year and it has mellowed somwhat, and nicely. Beautiful in the glass and delicious on the palate.
