Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2011-12)

Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2011-12)

Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2011-12)

Chocolate: Dark, unsweetened chocolate. Dim coffee, toffee, caramel. Earth, peat, smoke/ash, dried/candied dark fruits lurking. Spirits—rum and whiskey—distinctly present. Long and roasty-dry finish. Occasional flashes of vanilla throughout.

Syrupy-sticky and bready-chewy; massive and dense. A little warmth, gentle, but not oppressive. Some carbonation throwing in the with the soft-boozy prickle. Strong but very subtle; satisfying and filling.

Frighteningly drinkable, with booziness restrained, subtle, and subdued. Roasty, flavorful, intense, complex. It's a powerhouse of a beer, and it'll age nicely for a couple of years. Awesome beer.
