Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Black Cannon
Piney and citrussy bitterness, back by flowers and grass, wrapped in dark unsweetened chocolate; roasts tilt almost to coffee. Some dark bread and toast and caramel rising in the background. Nicely dry.
Medium-light body with decently prickly carbonation. Juicy roundness up front, pretty quickly overtaken by roasty dryness. Some piny-resinous/bready/chewy stickiness; long and drying finish.
A very drinkable Black IPA, a riff on their Loose Cannon IPA; intense and kinda complex. Really plays nicely with the tension between the roasts and the hops. Not my go-to in the style (that's Southern Tier Iniquity) but it's definitely something I'll grab a sixer of every winter when it comes available. Yummy.
