Tonight's Beer: He'Brew Vertical Jewbelation

He'Brew Vertical Jewbelation

Dark bread and whiskey (butter, vanilla, and wood) on top, with a roasty presence (chocolate and coffee, mostly) sneaking up. Caramel and dried/toasted dark fruits hanging around, with a touch of spice. Earthy/peaty bitterness struggling to make itself known.

Medium-bodied, or maybe a little heavier; definitely sticky and chewy, but not particularly oily or viscous. Pretty decent carbonation. The whiskey present on the tongue (and in the nose) doesn't hot this beer up much at all--just a vague prickle. Nicely drying on the long finish, very filling and satisfying.

Definitely a celebratory beer--one might call it a jewbelant one. :-) Complex and intense and subtle and integrated--even the whiskey character is fitted in well. Astoundingly drinkable. Not quite a barleywine, but that's the closest classical style (so to speak) to this beer. L'chaim!
