La Trappe Isid'or

Tonight's beer: La Trappe Isid'or

La Trappe Isid'or

Pale bread, lightly-toasted, with a touch of caramel or honey; pale fruits (bananas, pears, maybe white grapes) dried and/or candied; vanilla; a touch of butter and spice (cloves and allspice mostly, maybe a dash of ginger). Grassy-floral bitterness present, struggling for balance. Maybe a quick flash of sulfur somewhere.

Light-bodied, amply-carbonated. Impressively clean, with just the slightest stickiness on the finish; surprisingly drying and refreshing for its size. Very subtle and restrained alcohol presence, but no real prickle.

Pretty amazing beer. Slightly darker than the typical Belgian Pale Ale, but astonishingly flavorful: intense and complex. Oak character well integrated into the beer. Roughly no alcohol presence. Drinkable to the point of being slurpable.
