Tonight's beer: Nøgne-Ø Imperial Dunkel Wit
Dark bread, toffee, caramel, maybe a hint of chocolate. Orange and fruity-floral coriander (and maybe other spices); some other gentle bitterness stepping back a little. Some alcohol that tastes more like vodka than anything else, especially on the aftertaste. Possibilities of other pale fruits--mainly bananas--emerge later.
Mouthfeel is kinda thick (especially for a witbier--probably something to do with the 10% ABV), but lively; maybe a little gentle on the carbonation. Some soft syrupy stickiness, especially on the finish. Gently drying, with just a touch of boozy warmth.
An impressive take on a witbier, though it's not the first dark witbier I've had. Lots of spice and citrus, with a dark-bready-malt backbone and structure. Complex, integrated, and balanced. Also, amazingly yummy and stunningly drinkable--with a scarily subtle punch. A big-time winner from Nøgne-Ø.
