Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2X Stout
Chocolate on top, with hints of coffee breaking through. Caramel and burnt-fruity sweetness more than adequate to attain balance. Earthy-peaty bitterness filling in and hovering around the edges; a little grass, too.
The beer is big and slightly syrupy, and very smooth. A bit viscous and gently-carbonated. Some roasty dryness, especially on the finish, and some very gentle boozy warmth.
This isn't as stunningly impressive as Southern Tier's Blackwater Stouts, which I found to be awesome all the way across the board, but it's a very good stout (from a brewer that clearly knows from good stouts). Smooth and complex and flavorful; alarmingly drinkable. At 7.5% ABV, there's very little alcohol presence. It's a very, very yummy beer.
