Tonight's beer: Boulder Killer Penguin 2010

Caramel-toasted bread, with a touch of butter. Grassy-floral bitterness right alongside. Some dried/candied fruit lingering, bitter and sweet. Distant hints of smoke, and of spirits--mainly whiskey (possibly specifically bourbon).

Medium-bodied, shading toward some heft, with some decent prickle that's mostly carbonation (though there's a fair amount of booze, too). Some syrupy stickiness, with a very gentle warmth on the finish.

A very nice Barleywine; definitely a beer that did quite well with a year or so in heh bottle. A nicely-balanced version. Clearly it's likely to be more hops-focused when fresh. Intense and complex and well-integrated. Also, very yummy.
