Tonight's beer: Drie Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek
Tart cherries on top. Almost-metallic brightness, with funky-moldy tones, coming in right after. Woody character lurking around the edges, with hay, sweat, and animalistic flavors (like sweat and hair). Some bright red wine vinegar impressions emerge on finish.
The beer is light-bodied, with lots of tart, vinegary pucker, and maybe a little gentle carbonation. Immensely quenching, and almost refreshing--a first for me among kriek lambics.
I haven't had a lot of kriek lambics to this point--this is my third--but this is the first one I've had that I haven't felt as though I was forcing myself to drink, or at least to finish. Amazingly complex, leaning toward austere. Surprisingly drinkable, for all that.
