Tonight's beer: Full Sail Black Gold (2011)
A very big and boozy stout, with lots of bourbon character--the beer is really dominated by it--all kinda of vanilla and butter and heat; right behind that, chocolate and coffee and maybe some toffee/nuts; caramel sweetness, dark bread, hints of burnt fruits; maybe some distant peat, earth, smoke, ash.
Lighter-bodied than I was expecting--basically, the beer is medium-bodied--with not a lot of carbonation. Some syrupy stickiness, plenty of boozy heat, some roasty dryness on the very lingering end of the finish. Way too much alcohol character to miss--it's not a particularly subtle beer, that way.
It's not Bourbon County Stout, let alone The Abyss, but it's quite a nice beer. More sippable than slurpable, but definitely something worth spending a good chunk of your evening with.
