Samuel Adams Holiday Porter

Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Holiday Porter

Samuel Adams Holiday Porter

Chocolate and coffee, walking hand-in-hand on dark toasty bread, with caramal tagging along; maybe some dark fruitiness adding to the sweet. Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness hanging around the edges of the roastiness. Some typical porter-ish tang flashes by on the finish, with a bit of a hard metallic/mineral edge.

A medium-bodied beer with some pretty decent carbonation; surprisingly substantial for a ~5.7% ABV beer. Some gentle roasty dryness, especially on the sticky finish--bready, a little syrupy.

A very tasty American porter indeed. Drinkable practically to the point of being slurpable. Impressively flavorful--intense, complex, balanced, integrated. This and the Old Fezziwig are why I buy the Winter Classics pack. Yummy.
