Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad

Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad

Sierra Nevada Ovila Quad

Oh, my Gawds, this is an awesome beer. Dark, dried/candied fruits--cherries, plums, dark grapes, more; caramel and dark spices--cloves, allspice, etc. Some grassy-floral bitterness around the edges, and some flashes of dark spirits--mainly run and brandy--in the distance.

Light-bodied and highly-carbonated, and astonishingly smooth. Drying and very refreshing, with just the vaguest hint of boozy burn on the finish.

Balanced, complex, intense, and integrated. A superb rendition of a quadrupel. Scarily drinkable, with roughly zero alcohol presence. Carries the 10.4% ABV with astounding grace and subtlety. Deserves to be mentioned with beers like the St Bernardus Abt 12, Rochefort 10, Chimay Grande. Maybe not the Trappistes Westvleteren 12. Yummy as hell.

I wish we'd bought more than just the one bottle. Oh, well.
