Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye
The beer has pine and grapefruit (and other citrus) on top, with flowers and grass right behind. Something mineral/flinty hangs right there with the bitterness. Gently-toasted bread, distinct peppery character especially present on finish and aftertaste. Something bordering on tart, way in the background.
Medium-bodied mouthfeel, highly-carbonated, with a definite flinty/minteral prickle. Some syrupy/bready stickiness, and very drying.
This is a very assertive Rye IPA--not a shock from Sierra Nevada. There's lots of flavor, complex and intense. It's impressive the way rye in the mash makes the hops more prevalent. Quite a drinkable beer, considering how intense it is. Nice job from Sierra Nevada.
