Tonight's beer: Uerige Doppel-Sticke
Dark bread, roasts--chocolate and coffee, mainly--with strong anice/licorice impressions. Caramel, toffee, nuts, some toast, all bringing sweetness. Some fruits--burnt and not, some dark, some pale--hanging around the perimeter. Earth, grass, hints of smoke and maybe peat off in the distance.
Bready, syrupy, medium-thick/heavy mouthfeel, with pretty decent carbonation. Some distinct alcohol presence. Gently drying on long finish, satisfying, almost refreshing.
A nice barleywine-esque beer--basically a Düsseldorf-style altbier brewed to 8.5% ABV. Plenty of flavor, intense and balanced; surprisingly drinkable, if not entirely subtle about its alcohol content. Plenty yummy.
