Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Nommo
Dark bread and toast, lots of caramel, maybe some toffee and chocolate. Leather, smoke. Spices lurking--cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger, more; and fruits cherries, plums, bananas, pears, apples, probably more, all dried/candied. Dries out more nicely than one might think from all that sweet, especially on finish, with some grassy/floral/spicy bitterness.
Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation and some distinct (if gentle) alcohol prickle. Very pleasantly drying and startlingly refreshing.
Quite the drinkable dubbel--subtle and complex and integrated. Kinda sneaky with the booziness, but at 8.1% ABV it's not punitive or anything. Graceful in its strength, and very yummy. Another superb beer in Boulevard's Smokestack Series.
