Tonight's beer: Flying Dog Wildeman Farmhouse IPA
Grass and flowers up front, hints of pine and maybe citrus. Spices adding to the bitterness. Funkiness in the nose opens up, reveals pale dried/candied fruits, some pale bread; maintains its essential funk--sweat, hay, mold, etc. Very, very dry, from beginning to end. A touch--maybe--of something mineral on the finish.
Very light-bodied, and massively-carbonated. Sharply drying, cleansing, and scrubbing almost to the point of scouring. Very little alcohol presence--just about none. Finish is short, sharp, and clean, without even a hint of stickiness or chewiness.
A nice--intense and complex--Belgian-style IPA. Definitely has some saison-esque qualities, but is more bitter--much more bitter--than most relatively traditional Belgian beers are likely to be. Nicely integrated, and remarkably drinkable. I'm glad of two things: first, we have more; second, it's available year-round (I think).
