Tonight's beer: Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti
Chocolate up front, with a touch of coffee; caramel, dark bread, burnt fruit right behind. Butter and vanilla filling in the gaps. Earth and grass in background, with traces of peat, ash, smoke, spices. Distinct impressions of wood and dark booze (mainly bourbon and/or other whiskey).
Kinda think and dense and viscous on the tongue, with a clear boozy tingle. Syrupy stickiness and bready chewiness. Filling and satisfying; gently warming.
An excellent Russian Imperial Stout, with additional complexities from being aged on oak nicely-integrated into what is already a complex beer. Balanced and intense. The first variant Great Divide spun off their Yeti, which is one of my favorite versions of the style. Yummy.
