Maui Mana Wheat

Tonight's beer: Maui Mana Wheat

Maui Mana Wheat

Lots of fruit on top--some pineapple, some banana, others possible--with some pretty distinct tartness right behind. Some pale-bread sweetness, a touch of grassy bitterness. Distinct musky-funky impressions. Pretty dry, considering all the sweet elements, especially on the finish.

It's a pretty light-bodied beer, but smooth--lots of wheat character, here--and there's lots of carbonation (though that does seem to moderate with time). Drying and pretty refreshing. Finishes pretty clean.

An interesting and rather pleasant take on a pale wheat ale. With the pineapple juice that's added (says so on the label) and without any real hefeweizen yeast character, it's clearly not a hefeweizen--and it doesn't seem as though it's trying to be. Drinkable, and quite tasty. Pretty much perfect for a day that feels like late spring, in the middle of March.
