Tonight's beer: Stone 15 Escondidian Imperial Black IPA
Chocolate, with hints of caramel, dancing a promiscuous tango with pine, grapefruit, flowers, and grass. Touches of coffee and other citrus variants and dark bread lurking on the perimeter. Something spiritous--the vaguest hints--bright and clear, like good vodka, way off in the distance.
Mouthfeel is on the bready side of light, with good carbonation. Some bready-syrupy stickiness, but finishes pretty clean and cleansing. Very, very little warning of the 10.8% ABV.
Oh, wow. I've had some hits and some misses with Stone's beers, but this--this--is a hit. Intense and integrated and surprisingly complex. Practically no trace of the substantial alcohol content; scarily drinkable. Happy anniversary, Stone!
