Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nugget Nectar

Tröegs Nugget Nectar

Fruits on top, citrus, melons, tropical stuff (hints of musk there) and maybe bananas--backed up by pine, flowers, and grass. Caramel/toast very much a background/structural element, with some dried/candied fruity sweetness buried deeply. Maybe some spice lurking around the perimeter. Even with all those sweet thangs, the beer finishes quite dry.

The beer is medium-bodied, with decent prickle that's probably part carbonation, part booze. Lots of resinous stickiness. Maybe a little gentle warmth. Impressively drying, cleansing--scrubbing, even--without being scouring, stunningly refreshing.

One of the most drinkable über-hoppy-ish beers I've ever had--the only thing that comes close in my experience is Pliny the Elder. One of a very few "chase beers" that I've found to be worth running to ground (and in my neck of the woods it's not usually all that hard to find, when it's out). Balanced, complex, integrated, and intense, with subtleties that reward close attention. Carries 7.5% ABV with grace, truth and beauty. Genius.
