Food + Beer (for two)
(not the first time we've done this; the first time I've written it up)
Stillwater Existent (dark saison)
Beef + sausage stew, with onions, garlic, and peppers (bell and chile)
Turns out, even dark saisons are awesome food beers. We ended up with two extra bottles of this after getting some for Easter dinner with my family, and not getting to them that day. Lots of browned yummy flavors in the stew, from the sauteed onions and peppers and from the browned beef and sausage; lots of dark toasted/roasted flavors, and some peppery overtones in the beer. A little more fruit in the beer than I remember, but that could be the food bringing something out as easily as batch-to-batch variance in the beer.
Great food and beer combination for a night when a deceptively warm day for early spring is snapping back to something like seasonal coolth, and dampness appropriate for April.
Sorry for the mildly crappy picture
