Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
Lots of dark bread and molasses and maybe maple syrup. Hints of chocolate, toffee, nuts. Earth-grassy-piney-citrussy bitterness emerges around the middle and holds on through a long finish. Dried/candied dark fruits float up through the cracks.
Bready-chewy mouthfeel, with ample carbonation, some syrupy-resinous stickiness. Finish continues a long time. Round, but eventually cleansing and gently drying.
Definitely a comfort beer. Intense and complex and balanced; very flavorful. It's good to have a beer I know this well when I'm feeling as stuffy as I am today. Familiarity is not always the root of contempt. It probably says something about me that I like one of Dogfish Head's session--ish beers best of all their beers, as good as some of their crazier beers are.
