Tonight's beer: Dominion Millennium (2009)

Dominion Millennium (2009)

Buttery and deeply-toasted bread, with touches of dried/candied fruits and vanilla. Earth, grass, and distant smoke. Distinct whiskey-ish character (mostly bourbon) way in the background.

Bready-thick mouthfeel, bordering on viscous. Some gentle carbonation, and a little soft boozy warmth. Round through the middle, kinda chewy and sticky. Finish is long and mildly drying.

Even after about three years in the bottle, this is quite a burly barleywine. Lots of oaken character, nicely integrated. It would probably be just fine with another year or three in the bottle. Intense and complex and pretty well balanced. Obviously strong, but also very graceful. A perfect beer to sit and sip, and sip, and sip, and sip, until before you know it it's all gone.
