Tonight's beer: Grand Teton Black Cauldron
Chocolate and burnt fruit up front; coffee, caramel, and dark bread a step behind. Earth, spice, grass, pine, and citrus emerge in the background. The beer dries out some through the middle, but never all the way; roasty character comes forward more in the finish.
Roasty-dry mouthfeel, kinda thick but more light and fluffy than oily and viscous. Smooth, with basically no alcohol burn, considering the 8% ABV. Decent carbonation. Kinda long, chewy finish, with a little bready stickiness.
A big and very tasty big American stout. The brewer doesn't call it a Russian Imperial Stout, but it's a close thing--I wouldn't argue with someone calling it either. Big and roasty; intense and complex and integrated; surprisingly well-balanced; almost no warning about the booze payload. Another very good beer from Grand Teton.
