Heavy Seas Plank II

Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Plank II

Heavy Seas Plank II

Lots of dark-toasty flavors to open up—toast, toffee, nuts, dark bread—with strong caramel presence and maybe vanilla and dark dried/candied fruits. Grassy-floral bitterness rises in the middle, through to the end, with maybe a gentle touch of mint.

Kinda bready-chewy mouthfeel, with a lot of carbonation. Some stickiness, a bit drying. Maybe some soft—and pleasant—alcohol warmth, especially on the finish. Pretty smooth and soft.

A pretty impressive doppelbock. The wood character (poplar and eucalyptus planks) is very subtle and nicely integrated. Nicely drinkable, with only the quietest whisper of its relatively burly 8.5% ABV. A neat experiment, which I am happy to support, from a local-to-me brewery, which I am also happy to support.
