Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2X Stout
Lots of chocolate up front—like good milk chocolate, not Hershey's; coffee and caramel lurk by, and dark bread/toast in the background/structure. Earthy-grassy bitterness rises toward the middle into finish, with traces of peat, smoke, and burnt fruit.
The mouthfeel is kinda thick and viscous, syrupy and sticky; pretty decent carbonation eventually breaks the beer free. For ~7% ABV, not much boozy warmth, as in roughly none. Creamy and smooth on the finish.
Very, very nice. Intense, balanced, complex; astonishingly drinkable. Distressingly little alcohol presence, for such a big (ish) beer. A marvelous beer for with dessert, or to make beer floats, or on its own. Yummy.
