Tonight's beer: Abita Turbodog
Lots of chocolate, maybe a touch of coffee, on top of dark bread that might be toasted, at least a little bit. Caramel and smoke and maybe peat, blending with candied/dried dark fruits to provide a little sweetness. Earthy-grassy bitterness rising in middle, dries beer out through finish.
Some bready chewiness, just a touch of stickiness; the beer is medium-bodied with decent carbonation. Surprisingly clean for such a dark beer, pretty cleansing and refreshing.
A very drinkable brown ale, with a pretty impressive flavor-to-booze ration. Tons of flavor, and good complexity; very well-balanced. Definitely a beer that wants to be served with food, probably something with some strong browning going on. Yummy. Cheers to New Orleans!
