Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Black Ops
Lots of chocolate up front/on top, with oaken-vanilla-bourbon character right alongside, on dark-bready structure. Decorative touches of caramel and burnt-fruits throwing some sweetness in; earthy-grassy bitterness wafting by in the background. Distant possibilities of dark spices, peat, and smoke.
Mouthfeel is just on the heavy side of medium, but viscous and sticky in spite of substantial carbonation. A fair amount of alcohol burn—not a surprise, considering the 11.3% ABV (and being bottle-conditioned, might be higher). Kinda smooth, with a long and sticky finish.
Wow. A big, barrel-aged stout that doesn't mess around. Tons of bourbon character—kinda dominates the beer. Plenty complex and intense, and it holds together pretty well. Definitely a sipping beer, and pleasant; I do wonder how it would have aged, given another year or so. At $40 a bottle, that would be an expensive experiment.
