Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron
Vanilla and anise/licorice rising to the surface to start, backed by dark bread, chocolate, caramel. A goodly bit of dark spirits in the middle—rum, brandy, whiskey—with earthy-grassy-woody bitterness emerging closer to the finish. Maybe some coffee buried in the background somewhere.
Medium-bodied, but tons of syrupy-stickiness and a good deal of chewiness; very coating; decent carbonation. Substantial boozy heat, but not unpleasant. Roasty-drying, and boozy-drying. Substantial and filling.
A mammothly intense and complez beer, boozy but integrated; more drinkable than one might expect. given the obvious and blatant 12%ABV. A beer that rewards close attention and demands caution. Very nice.
