Einbecker Winter-Bock

Tonight's beer: Einbecker Winter-Bock

Einbecker Winter-Bock

Lots of caramel, toast, dark bread, nuts, toffee; strong impressions of chocolate and dark dried/candied fruits. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges in the middle, nudges the beer toward a slightly drier finish.

Kinda bready-chewy, a bit of stickiness, on a thoroughly medium body, with decent carbonation. A little syrupy tough on the back end. For 7.5% ABV, very little alcohol presence. Gently drying on the finish.

Quite a yummy doppelbock. Not so dark and opaque and intense as, say, Ayinger Celebrator, but definitely a very good example of the style. Lots of bready-toasty character, with adequate bitterness to achieve something like balance. I've had just about everything Einbecker brew—certainly everything they import to the US—and it's all been awesome.
