Tonight's beer: Firestone Walker Wookey Jack
Piny-citrussy-grassy-floral bitterness tangling and tangoing with sour dark bread darkly toasted, with strong impressions of coffee and unsweetened chocolate. Distant peppery tartness crawls along the back end of the finish. A small touch of caramel sweetness brushed with fruit juice, almost instantly subsumed; the beer winds up very dry.
Mouthfeel is solidly medium, with maybe a touch of chewiness. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness into and through a long and drying finish. Good carbonation. Kinda scrubbing, almost scouring, eventually refreshing.
A very yummy beer, indeed. Lots of intense and complex flavor, well-integrated and somehow something like balanced. Immensely and scarily drinkable, carrying its 8.3% ABV with impressive grace and subtlety. A marvelous beer from Firestone Walker, one of the best Black IPAs I've had.
