Tonight's beer: He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A.

He'Brew Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A.

Lots of intense and complex bitterness to start—grass, pine, flowers, citrus—with rye sourness dragging the rest of the malt—bread, toast, caramel, maybe a dim impression of toffee—to fill in some minuscule gaps. A trace of something spice in the back, along with a vague impression of candied fruit and a touch of clear spiritous booze. Dries out, mostly, by the finish.

Big and bready-chewy, a little thick—almost approaching a barleywine in heft—with some syrupy-resinous stickiness on the long finish. A bit of boozy tingle mingling with a prickle of lively carbonation. Drying on finish, bordering on refreshing, finally satisfying.

A nicely drinkable big Rye IPA, with lots of intense and complex flavor, nicely balanced and well integrated. Some boozy presence, but nothing like what I'd expect from 10% ABV (and not unpleasant, in any event). Something of a go-to beer, since Sara likes it so much; I'm not seeing that as something to complain about, at all. Yum.
