Magic Hat Encore

Tonight's beer: Magic Hat Encore

Magic Hat Encore

Lots of pale citrus—grapefruit and lemon more than orange or anything else—with pine, grass, flowers blended in; traces of spice and pepper. Pale bread, crackiers, caramel, a dim touch of toast: all way in the background. Something tart-ish flashes past on the finish, with pale stonefruits mingling in, as the beer dries out.

The body is light and kinda soft, with lots of lifely carbonation. Refreshing and drying and cleansing, without feeling at all scrubbing. Maybe a touch of something flinty-sharp at the end, with a trace of resinous stickiness.

Mmm. A very nice approach to softening the mouthfeel of an otherwise pretty assertive IPA. Balanced and integrated; intense and complex. A good job by Magic Hat of changing things up a bit.
