Tonight's beer: Port City Optimal Wit
Floral and bright to open, with mostly-lemon citrus right alongside pale bread, almost-lactic gentle tartness just behind. Grassy bitterness flashes past, with pepper and spice. Juicy sweetness, then the beer dries out.
The beer is very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Splashes of pulpy juiciness, but overall quite drying and immensely refreshing. Pretty smooth, very drinkable, wraps up clean and cleansing.
Really an awesome witbier, perfect for a day when summer rears its muggy head, even if the day finished damp and rainy. Racy and refreshing; flavorful and complex. Port city is a small and very local brewery that at a minimum makes one very good beer—this one.
