Tonight's beer: Stoudts Fat Dog
Sorry for the blurry photo. Operator error, probably.
Lots of chocolate, backed by dark bread, coffee, caramel; earthy-grassy bitterness lurking behind the roasts, with traces of peat and smoke. Burnt fruit flickers past in the distance.
The beer is thick, dense, gently-carbonated, chewy and sticky; somehow also smooth and slick and slippery, almost-greasy. Not much hint of the 9% ABV. Mostly roasty-drying.
A quietly excellent imperial oatmeal stout, with lots of intense roasty-toasty flavors. Sippable, drinkable, with some surprising subtleties rewarding closer attention. Balanced and integrated, with the mouthfeel of a good oatmeal stout on some gentle steroids. Yum.
