Tonight's beer: Firestone Walker Union Jack
Lots of bitterness slapping my tongue—citrus (mostly grapefruit, but oranges and lemons appear) and pine on top, with floral, grassy, musky impressions and grace notes of melons and pineapples. Pale-toasted bread plays a background/structural role, with hints of caramel and crackers. Overall very dry, with a distinct flinty snap across the finish.
Just on the light side of medium-bodied, with decent carbonation. Very drying and refreshing, with something bristly-flinty to the finish. Pretty clean; just a touch of resinous stickiness lingers.
A very drinkable American IPA, with tons of intense and complex hoppy flavors on a pretty simple malt background. Not balanced, exactly, but very nicely-integrated and I suspect more or less exactly what the brewer was aiming at. Also, very yummy. Must. Acquire. More.
