Tonight's beer: Smuttynose Gravitation
Dark fruits, dried and/or candied, to open, with darkish baking spices right alongside; caramel and dark bread, with dark spirits like rum and whiskey and maybe brandy, a step behind. Earthy-grassy-floral bitterness rises up by the finish, and the beer does manage eventually to dry out, at least a little bit.
A little on the thick side of medium-bodied, kinda bready-chewy and syrupy-sticky, with a decent prickle of carbonation and a fair amount of boozy heat. Gently warming, somewhat drying; eventually gets in the neighborhood of refreshing.
A yummy take on a quadrupel from Smuttynose, pretty convincingly on-style. Kinda big and boozy feeling, but for the very much mostly pleasant. Lots of flavor—complex and intense and well-integrated. Probably a beer that would stand up nicely to some aging; we may acquire some to that end, next beer run.
