Tonight's beer: Stillwater Artisanal As Follows
Pale fruits open—apples, pears, bananas, melons, muscats—very dry, with distant hints of musk and mold. Vague bread and honey, dim hints of toast, in background. Grass, flowers, spice flash past toward the finish. Wraps up quickly, with a possibility of clear spirits staying behind.
Very light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Kinda smooth and nicely drying and immensely refreshing. A little bit of stickiness on the finish, but otherwise clean and cleansing. A vague trace of boozy heat, mainly on the aftertaste.
Wow. Tons of flavor here, intense and complex and integrated and balanced. Kinda dominated by the yeast, I think, but I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing. Hovering stylistically on the border between saison and Belgian strong pale ale. Might have aged nicely for a bit longer, but fine as it is. Not a lot of warning of the 9%v ABV. Very drinkable, approaching dangerously so. ANother big-time winner from Stillwater. Yummy.
