Tonight's beer: Stone Arrogant Bastard
Grassy-floral bitterness, with just a touch of pine, lies softly on a bed of kinda thick bready-toasty malts, with substantial caramel presence. Maybe some traces of citrus and other fruits off in the distance, emerging mostly on the long and lingering finish.
Mouthfeel is kinda thick and bready-chewy, a little sticky, with decent carbonation. Kinda drying, and a little scrubbing. Finish is a little resinous-sticky.
A pretty drinkable beer, probably a little on the dark side for American Amber Ale, which is the closest category I can think of. Decently balanced, but lacking in intensity and complexity. For all the bad-ass posturing on the label, what was in the bottle was ... pretty pedestrian. For me, Stone has always been hit-or-miss; I know which category this beer is in. Mild bummer.
