Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher FIFTEEN
Smoke, chocolate, coffee, in a three-way dance illegal in at least fourteen states; dark bread, toast, caramel in supporting roles, occasionally stepping forward a bit. Earth and grass and ash and maybe peat lurking, occasionally joined by a flicker of burnt fruit.
Thick, but kinda soft, with pretty decent carbonation; gentle roasty dryness. Nary a trace of the 10.8% ABV on the label (which might be higher if this was bottle conditioned; I don't know if it was). Long and bready-chewy finish. Immensely satisfying.
An immensely smoky big stout. Lots of more or less typical stouty things goin on underneath, and the beer overall is nicely complex and integrated and intense. Drinkable to the point of being scary. I'm happy to drink it, but it's a mild bummer I don't have any more left.
